Full standing, studio view of this young boy wearing kepi, jacket with gilted buttons, and with haversack or book bag over his shoulder. He is posed holding a book on side table. Besides the gilted buttons, the table cover has been tinted with red.

Typically matted and framed in hard gutta purcha “Union” case. Image has some silver oxidation around the edges which is very common, otherwise the image is perfectly clear.

Behind the image, in the liner of the case is found the label of the case maker (Littlefield, Parsons & Co.) and the photographer (“C.F. Cook, Artist.”). Opposite the image, the case is lined with blue velvet. The hard case is in very fine condition. The matching halves display a pattern called “The Fireman” for obvious reasons. The raised imagery is of a fireman in the center with floral patterns surrounding.

The photographer, Charles F. Cook, had his business in Wilkes Barre, PA. He was born in Hanover, Germany in 1838 and came to Pennsylvania and began business in Wilkes Barre city in the 1850s. He served in the 143rd Pennsylvania Volunteers during the Civil War. He died suddenly in 1894.

A very fine image and case.  [jet][ph:L]
