Here is a pair of 1/6-plate tintypes, probably a husband and wife. Images are extremely crisp and clear. On the left side is a well-dressed woman and on the right side is a well-dressed man. Both have cheeks lightly tinted pink. The woman’s image also has had her brooch and rings tinted gold; the man has had shirt buttons highlighted. The photos are clear with good contrast.
The images each have a standard style of stamped brass mat and are framed under glass with stamped brass frames. There are a few spots of darker oxidation seen on the mats and a very small amount of green verdigris on the edges of the frames.
The gutta purcha “Union case” is in excellent condition and of a brown color. It is free of chips and wear and has only two hairline cracks near the hinges on the back. The decorations on the outside of the two halves of the case are perfectly matched and feature a looped belt and buckle design.
An excellent pair of photos and case. [jet] [ph:m]
