QUARTER-PLATE TINTYPE OF TWO MEN SHARING A BOTTLE OF “RED EYE”

$300.00 SOLD

Quantity Available: None

Item Code: 1138-2019

Nice, clean image of two men seated at a small cloth covered table beside a short column. The fellow at the left wears a dark slouch hat and a dark civilian suit with matching dark vest. The photographer has tinted his cheeks rose and gilded the ring on his pinky finger. The fellow on the right is a little more dapper in his dress. He wears a light-colored slouch hat, dark civilian frockcoat with light-colored trousers and a matching vest. His cheeks have also been tinted.

The two men are posed with the man on the right pouring a drink as the man on the left looks on. The photographer paid attention to detail and tinted only the upper part of the bottle red as the wine pours out into the glass on the table and the glass appears half red with the flowing spirits.

Contrast and clarity are excellent. There is one small spot of oxidation near the crown of the hat on the man to the right.

Decorative brass mat is present, but dirty. Stamped brass frame is also dirty and somewhat flattened. There is no glass.

Image comes in a half leather case.

From the collection of the late William A. Turner.  [ad][ph:L]
