Quarter-plate tintype of a horse standing in the middle of a dirt road that trails off up a hill in the distance. The horse stands with it’s left side toward the camera and its head turned looking into the lens. It wears a headstall but is not saddled. The animal looks to be dark in color from head to foot with a sleek looking coat.

Visible in the background, along the left side of the road, are three houses. The owner of the horse stands along the left side of the image holding the reins

Contrast and clarity are excellent. Tin looks clean and free of imperfections.

Image comes with the usual decorative brass mat and stamped brass frame inside half of a leather case.

Behind the image is a business card for “LORING, WATERHOUSE & CO. DRY GOODS, 339 & 341 WASHINGTON STREET, BOSTON.” Written in the case behind the image is the name “CLARA.”  [ad] [ph:L]
