Waist-up seated view of an unidentified middle-aged bearded captain. He wears a dark frockcoat with very clear captain’s shoulder straps open to reveal a dark vest beneath. In his lap he holds his forage cap with crossed cannons visible on the front and his Model 1850 Foot Officer’s sword.

Clarity is excellent and the contrast is good. Image does have two or three minor areas of surface flaking and there is some crazing of the emulsion in areas. These were difficult to catch accurately by scanning or photographing the image; the bright area on one of the close-ups is due to camera flash.

Image comes in a scalloped, plain brass mat with decorative stamped brass frame and a half leather case. [ad][ph:L]
