Tintype of George W. Edwards in civilian clothes. Image is a bust view that shows Edwards in a civilian suit.

Image is sharp with good contrast and is housed in a paper frame. Period pencil inscription at bottom reads “GEO. W. EDWARDS / LACONIA N. H.”

Reverse has collector information in pencil and 2 blue 2 cent tax stamp. Top edge of reverse has remains of an ink inscription but that edge is trimmed.

George W. Edwards was born in Gilford, New Hampshire. He was 23 years old when he enlisted as a Private in Company D, 12th New Hampshire Infantry on August 21, 1862. He was promoted to Quartermaster Sergeant July 1, 1863 and held that rank throughout the war. He was commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant on May 18, 1865 and 1st Lieutenant on May 26th that same year but was never mustered in at that rank.

He died in Pittsfield, Massachusetts on May 27, 1890. [ad][ph:L]
