Offered here is a tintype mounted in a cdv sleeve. Image shows a man in civilian clothes, seated before a detailed backdrop with lake and mountains. Of special interest is a Whitney-Kennedy rifle held across his lap. Photo measures 2.5” x 4” overall. Image retains very good detail. Paper cdv sleeve is of light gray paper with gold decorative print. Small tears at bottom edges.
In 1880, Samual V. Kennedy and Frank W. Tiesing redesigned the 1878 Burgess rifle to accept the popular .44 Winchester centerfire cartridge. Thus, the Whitney-Kennedy rifle is born, with production running from 1880 to 1886. [jet][ph:L]
