This classic image of a Civil War enlisted man features him seated with leg and arms crossed, a federal issue frock or “dress” coat with light blue piping trim, federal eagle buttons, and shining epaulettes on each shoulder. His issued trousers fall on the top of his federal issue bootees or “brogans”. His mid-length hair is swept back and nicely combed and he sports a short beard and stoic look.
The case is in great condition, with no chipping and only minor discoloration to the gutta percha material on the reverse half. The single brass clasp holds the case securely closed while the brass hinges operate as new. The interior velvet pad is a deep plum color and in excellent condition. The photo frame is an oval shape with a floral spray pattern and floral border. The case measures 3.75” x 3.40”. The front of the case has a nice “Rebekah at the Well” motif with floral bordering.
A classic addition to any Civil War photograph collection featuring a proud young serviceman in full dress uniform. [cm][ph:L]
