This lovely tintype features a young Civil War soldier in a light blue trimmed dress or “frock” coat. He stands proudly with his hand placed over his abdomen, obscuring several of the eagle buttons fastening his coat. As per regulation, it falls at mid-thigh and the quilted breast gives a nice, martial appearance. A “type I” style forage cap sits back on his head, accentuating a determined expression. His issue trousers fall over what appear to be boots.
The case features a wonderful motif of liberty greetings progress, a strong symbol of deep patriotism. The velvet liner is a dark plum color with an embossed floral design. The photo frame is an oval shape with a blooming flower pattern and floral pattern border with very light tarnishing. Case measures approximately 3.25” x 3.75”. [cm][ph:L]
