This period stereoview card was published by E. & H. T. ANTHONY & CO. and features one of the most photographed locations of the Civil War - Lookout Mountain, Tennessee. Site of the “Battle Above the Clouds”, it became an iconic spot where veterans flocked for photos even before the war had ended.
The card is in good condition overall. There is minimal wear to the edges and the photo is both clean and sharp. The front borders read, “PHOTOGRAPHIC HISTORY” and “THE WAR FOR THE UNION”. The reverse has a large, glued paper tag that reads, “WAR VIEWS. View on the top of Lookout Mountain, Tenn. No. 3654 PUBLISHED BY E. & H. T. ANTHONY & CO., AMERICAN AND FOREIGN STEREOSCOPIC EMPORIUM, 501 BROADWAY, NEW-YORK.” A 2-cent stamp is attached with a used marking. Overall measurements are 3.4” x 6.9”. A negative label on the original which was transferred to this print reads #3654.
A very nice and highly collectible stereoscopic card. [CM][PH:L]
