This dual image shows a Native American man in minimal clothing with his tribal clothing hanging from nearby foliage. A large, Brown Eagle is perched atop a branch just above his head.
The printed photos are mounted to a larger yellow card with stylized text on either side reading “U.S. Topographical and Geological Survey of the Colorado River of the West/BY J.W. POWELL AND A.H. THOMPSON”. Edges are sharp with minor wear to the corners. The reverse is a light blue to green color with a purple pasted tag at center reading “INDIANS OF THE COLORADO VALLEY. U-IN-TA UTES. Living in the U-in-ta Valley, on the Western Slope of the Wasatch Mountains, in Utah. Nau-no-kwits and his Eagle. No. 91. PHOTOGRAPHED BY HILLERS.” A very small penciled “WP” is noted at the low right corner. Overall measurements are 6.95” x 4.55”. Likely dates to 1874-1875.
A very rare and interesting card – a true piece of the old American West. [CM][PH:L]
