This dual image is mounted to a muted yellow card and features four members of the Chippewa Tribe, three women and a baby, bringing a canoe to rest along the bank of a body of water. Each image is in good condition, with mild surface dirt around the borders. Edges are otherwise sharp and only very minor surface marking are noted on the right side of the left photograph. The card is in good condition with minor surface dirt but mostly clean and sharp edges and corners (mild denting at upper left). Red text on either side of the image reads “CHARLES A. ZIMMERMAN, PHOTOGRAPHER”/”THIRD STREET, ST. PAUL, MINNESOTA.” The reverse is a peach-toned color, blank, and clean. Minor rolling is noted at lower right. A period ink notation is written along the left side (top when rotated vertically). Overall measurements are 3.5” x 6.95”.
A snapshot of an endangered culture and a true artifact of the Old American West. [cm][ph:L]
