This antique stereo card features a dual printed image of what appears to be a Sioux tribal family at their camp. A wagon rests near a teepee, while three people rest beneath a drying rack. The image is in good condition with a slight water stain at top center-right and two inconspicuous areas of edge rolling. It is flanked on either side by stylized text reading “Stereo-scopic Thom Ward Series Gems./Rod & Gun SPORTS” and is labeled “Sioux Camp.” The mounting card is a natural color with minor wear at the corners and lower edge. The reverse is blank, save for “TSG 20” written in pencil. Some light surface dirt and staining is noted in addition to edge and corner wear similar to the front side. Overall measurements are 3.5” x 7”. Likely an 1870’s-1880’s piece.
A scarce view of the old American West and a culture in the midst of war and change. [cm][ph:L]
