This dual image shows three Native American men in minimal clothing, posing in front of a wooded area with long bows and quivers.
The printed photos are mounted to a larger yellow card with stylized text on either side reading “U.S. Topographical and Geological Survey of the Colorado River of the West/BY J.W. POWELL AND A.H. THOMPSON”. Edges are sharp with minor wear to the corners in the form of rolling. The reverse is a light blue to green color with a purple pasted tag at center reading “INDIANS OF THE COLORADO RIVER VALLEY. No. 57. MO-A-PA-RI-ATS. A tribe of Indians inhabiting the Valley of the Mo-a-pa River, a tributary of the Rio Virgen, in Southern Nevada. “FIVE AND THREE ARE EIGHT.” PHOTOGRAPHED BY HILLERS. Entered according to Act of Congress in the year 1974, by J.W. Powell, in the Office of the Librarian of Congress, at Washington.” A small penciled note at the low right corner reads “220”. Overall measurements are 6.95” x 4.55”. Likely dates to 1874-1875.
A very rare and interesting card – a true piece of the old American West. [cm][ph:L]
