Offered here are a pair of fired .58 caliber minie balls. Both feature cone cavity, three grooves, deep ramrod marks on nose, and rifling marks down the sides.
Of interest is the rifling on the sides of the bullets. The seven-groove pattern is straight; not a twist. Some Whitney rifles had straight rifling! These bullets are examples that were fired from such a rifle.
White patina with some dirt remaining. Recovered from Fredericksburg, VA. [jet] [ph:L]
