This relic condition bayonet was made for the US Model 1816 Flintlock Musket longarm. In time, the M1816 was converted to a percussion musket and the accompanying accoutrements could also be affixed to the newer conversion. The M1816 bayonet was the first American bayonet to include a uniformly ground flute and the first bayonet to employ the “T” mortise in the socket. The triangular blade on this particular item measures 16” and has a convex shape.  The socket measures 3” and there is no locking ring.

There are no clear markings on the item.  The bayonet has signs of pitting and oxidation.

The recovery location is unknown.  [AD] [ph:L]
