This is a perfect “dug” example of a brass buckle for the cavalry carbine sling shoulder belt. Measures 3 ¼” x 2” with crossbar and two belt hooks. Perfectly marked on back with three stamps: “E. GAYLORD / CHICOPEE / MASS.”, a strong “US”, and “T.J. SHEPARD”. Buckle has a wonderful chocolate brown patina. Unknown recovery location. [jet] [ph:L]
