This is an excavated Civil War iron picket pin.  A regulation piece of equipment for cavalrymen. Used to stake-down a horse temporarily while on picket or grazing.

Measures 11 ½” long overall.  Iron “figure 8” loop is missing.

Untreated iron remains rusty as is typical for “dug” relics. Iron is stable.

Recovered from a New York cavalry camp site near Fredericksburg, Virginia.
