This is an excavated .36 caliber two cavity bullet mold for “Navy” revolvers. The mold halves are brass with a steel sprue cutter, screw, and pins. The mold is approximately 5” in overall length. The mold is unmarked.

The mold is a relic and is in “dug” condition. However, it is in very good condition and still opens. There are two cavities; one for round ball and one for the generic Colt-style elongated bullet with rebated base. The cavities are in good condition with no damage or wear noted. The sprue cutter is rusty white the brass mold halves have a perfect dark green patina.

Recovered from a New York cavalry camp site near Fredericksburg, Virginia.

A very nice example of a bullet mold for a Civil War revolver.  [jet] [ph:L]
