This is an excavated soldier’s side knife. This piece measures nearly 11” long overall with a 6 ½” blade. The blade is 1” wide at the ricasso.
Bone handles pinned in place. There is some slight loss at the end of the handles on each side. There are thin strips of brass between the iron tang and the bone handles.
In very good condition overall for a relic. But this is an excavated relic and the iron shows rust and pitting. Uncoated.
Recovered near Orange, Virginia. [jet] [ph:L]
