Excavated iron lockplate from a Model 1855 rifle musket. Lockplate and hammer. All components, except the mainspring, remain on the back side of the lockplate.
Hump back style plate featuring cutout for Maynard’s primers; no primer door.
The date of manufacture “1859” is visible on left portion of lock. No other markings are visible.
Relic has moderate pitting from being buried but has been well cleaned and preserved. Recovered near Orange, Virginia. [jet] [ph:L]
