RELIC WORLD WAR ONE BRITISH SMLE WIRE CUTTER HEAD

Item Code: 490-3925

During World War One the ubiquitous wire cutters played an important role in trench raids and assaults. Leading elements would use these cutters to penetrate the enemies wire entanglements and clear a pathway for the following assault troops.

The relic offered here is the rusted head of the wire cutters that attached to the barrel of the British short magazine Lee Enfield or the SMLE. This example still retains the attachment hook with tightening wingnut.

Location of recovery is unknown. [ad] [ph:L]
