Offered here are a variety of steel fire strikers; the “steel” part of “flint and steel.” A fire striker is a piece of carbon steel from which sparks are struck by the sharp edge of flint, chert or similar rock. It is a specific tool used in fire making.

In practice the sharp edge of the flint is used to violently strike the steel at an acute angle in order to shave off small particles of metal. The pyrophoricity of the steel results in the shavings oxidizing in the air. The molten, oxidizing sparks then ignite tinder.

These are hand forged and in rusty, relic condition. Unknown recovery locations.

Sizes range from 1.65” to 2.68” long.   [jet] [ph:L]
