Large, nose cast with three grooves tightly packed close to the base of the bullet. Cone cavity. Southern manufacture, likely from Raleigh, North Carolina. Smooth light gray patina overall.
Many variations are found in the nose of this style; this example features a rather long sprue remaining on the nose.
Labeled a “Belgian” bullet by early collectors for an unknown reason other than the fact that many large caliber Belgian muskets were imported and used during the war. [jet] [ph:jet]
