Offered here is a very nice example of a Northern, arsenal-made bullet. This style of bullet was machine pressed to form the nose and cavity, then turned on a lathe to finish the shoulder and grooves. In this case, no rings were added.

This pattern was made in .54, .58, and .69 caliber. Early reference books erroneously call these “Prussian” bullets associating them with the many large-bore Prussian muskets that were imported during the war.

This bullet exhibits a light tan patina. A tough bullet to find in this fine condition.  [jet][ph:jet]
