Offered here is a heavy iron fragment of a French mortar shell. Measuring approximately 7” x 5” it is also 1.6” thick! Two interesting features visible on the piece are a portion of the fuse hole and one of the loading “ears.”
The piece has been cleaned to bare metal and coated.
A tag attached to the fragment reads, “FORT TICONDEROGA MORTAR FRAGMENT, FRENCH AND INDIAN WARS, 1758, or REVOLUTIONARY WAR, 1775, 1777, or 1780. From Mr. Dugan (dealer) to Bob Speelman to D. Hinks. Purchased from D. Hinks.” [jet] [ph:L]
