This is a .44 caliber Tennessee rifle bullet. Tall and slim with three grooves, this bullet has a deep cavity with a teat in the top. Mottled white patina overall.
The Tennessee State Military Board decided upon .44 caliber as the standard bore diameter for “country” and “Kentucky” rifles collected to be used by the state forces. Cartridges for these weapons were made at the Nashville Arsenal.
These are often erroneously called “Kerr” rifle bullets by some collectors. However, the English Kerr rifle actually used cylindrical Whitworth bullets.
This is a nice example of a rare Confederate bullet. [jet] [ph:jet]
