Bayonet is complete with a full-length triangular blade and mortised socket. Both are encrusted with a thin layer of rust.
The blade face is wide with no visible fuller. Socket meas. approx. 3 3/16 of an inch long with a thin collar. Front part of the mortise has narrowed due to a slight bend in the socket. Socket is also stamped with the number “37.” Blade meas. approx. 17.00 inches long with a slight downward bend starting approx. 2.50 inches from the point. Blade is 1.00 inch wide at the ricasso.
Attached to the blade face is a modern tag that reads “VIRGINIA MANUFACTORY.”
