US M1851 OFFICER’S SWORD BELT PLATE RECOVERED IN ORANGE, VIRGINIA

$300.00 SOLD

Quantity Available: None

Item Code: 1184-132

Standard regulation M1851 officer’s sword belt plate measuring 50mm by 83mm with integral wreath and applied broad tongue. This finely made officer’s plate is stamped in high relief; the details are very clean and crisp despite being in relic condition.  The wreath, eagle, motto, and sunburst are striking.

Back of belt plate shows a wide applied tongue made of brass with no bench number present.

This belt plate shows the bronze finish of the metal with dirt stuck in the recessed areas. Some green verdigris is present in the stippled background and around the hasp.

Overall, a nice sturdy brass plate which has not been cleaned and still shows dirt from the recovery location of Orange, Virginia.  [cla] [ph:L]
