Standard regulation M1851 Officer’s sword belt plate measuring 50mm by 84mm with integral wreath, and although in relic condition, the stippled background and sunburst are still clearly seen as is the motto and banner above the eagle’s head. Very minor traces of gilt are seen in the recessed areas.
Back of belt plate shows applied tongue with no bench number present. There is a roman number “9” etched into the hasp.
This belt plate shows a red-brown patina throughout with some olive coloration around the top half.
Overall, a nice sturdy brass plate which has not been cleaned and still shows dirt from the recovery location of Orange, Virginia. [cla] [ph:L]
