This is an excavated block “A” brass button that would be worn on Confederate artillery uniforms. Button is two-piece construction and measures 23mm. The block letter A is lined with a faint push near the top left corner and has flecks of verdigris. It is inlaid on a plain dark patina background.
On reverse there is no backmark. Shank is secure and intact, but is bent to the side. There are spots of verdigris on the back as well. [mc] [ph:L]
