CONFEDERATE CLIPPED CORNER BELT BUCKLE RECOVERED IN ORANGE, VA

$295.00 SOLD

Quantity Available: None

Item Code: 1184-124

This thin sheet brass buckle was produced at the beginning of the Civil War for Confederate soldiers when the Confederacy lacked the means to supply their troops with fancy accoutrements. This simple yet sturdy relic buckle was found in Orange, Virginia in the midst of some of the battlefields of Virginia which were most contended over.

The plate is intact with the exception of one small chip to the edge revealing some bright tin underneath. There is a small crack in the at about the middle of the plate, which goes the whole way through the plate, but it is not flaking and is otherwise sturdy. Overall, the plate shows a nice brown patina with some rust coloration and some brown and dark green patina on the center of the plate. It measures 3 ¼ by 2 ¼ inches.

No hooks are present on the reverse and no solder marks or attachment points are noticeable. There are some bright marks at two corners where the outer tin has flaked off. The other end where the crack exists shows where flaking had occurred. Nice brown patina throughout on this side as well. [cla] [ph:L]
