This dug relic is the puppy-paw hooks and tongue off the back of a US waistbelt plate. Often the Rebs would melt the lead off of the back of the plate, removed the studs and tongue and use them for their own belts.
This piece was dug on the Hauser Farm at Antietam which was situated behind the Dunker Church. Many of General Stonewall Jacksons troops were in this area and after the battle the farm was the site of many burials.
Item is complete but with a coating of thick rust and dirt. [ad][ph:L]
