The Battle of Eckmühl, fought on April 22, 1809, was a battle in the Napoleonic “War of the Fifth Coalition.” Napoleon had been unprepared for the start of hostilities by the Austrians and for the first time since assuming the French Imperial Crown had been forced to give up the initiative to an opponent.
