This plate was recovered on the battlefield of Fredericksburg.
The face of the plate has a good “US” stamping and is free of any dings and dents. The patina is a spotty mix of dark and light browns caused by ground action and oxidation.
Reverse has 100% of the lead fill with both “puppy-paw” hooks and tongue. Also stamped in the lead back is a clear “W. H. SMITH” over “BROOKLYN.” [AD] [ph:L]
