This is a scarce pair of excavated Confederate spurs. These have convex heel bands ending in flat rectangular plates for the spur straps, with the slots somewhat unevenly cut, but with the forward exterior corners carefully beveled. The necks are flat, rising from the middle and the top edge of the heel bands, curving up and slightly back and then jutting straight to the rear, giving them a rather snake-like appearance, accentuated by the rounded ends and pierced hole for the rowel pin. The rowels, naturally, are gone. The brass has a light green tone mixed with small white and off-white spots and a small bit of brown in one of the holes for the rowel pin. There are no bends or breaks. [sr][ph:m/L]
