This Federal belt plate is of the regulation 1839 pattern and was recovered near Stones River, Tennessee.
Constructed in the die-struck and rolled brass method, the accoutrement’s brass face shows a clear “US” in the center and features a fine brown patina. The edge remains in good condition except for a plow of shovel scrape below the “S”.
The lead filled back is lightly pitted and retains nearly all of the lead fill with the minor edge ding visible. No maker’s mark. Carved initials appear to be “T O”. This is the style with “puppy-paw” hooks. All hooks remain complete and in place. A nice relic in good “dug” condition. [jet] [PH:L]
