This is a typical iron cannon ball of the era. Hollow iron ball filled with case shot and would have had a Bormann time fuse. For 12-pounder "Napoleon" cannons.
No Bormann fuse. No iron under plug. Iron body shows moderate pitting. Several case shot balls still rattle around inside.
This "dug" relic has been cleaned. Painted on the side is “CASE SHOT / U.S. FORD” followed by an unreadable date. [jet][ph:L]
