This Federal belt plate is of the regulation 1839 pattern. Constructed in the die-struck and rolled brass method, the brass accoutrement’s face shows a very clear “US”. Face has an even brown patina. Lead filled back retains probably 95% of lead fill. No maker’s mark. This is the style with “puppy paw” hooks. Belt hook broken off.

Condition: This is a nearly complete belt plate and retains its shape well. Having said that, it looks like it was dropped in a gravel road and marched over. Brass face shows a light “sandy” texture like it may have been “mushed” into the ground. The lead back shows a similarly “unsmooth” and chipped surface.

Regardless, a nice relic that was there and will still display quite well.  [jet][ph:L]
