While the Parrott elongated shell was the standard ammunition for the 3-inch rifled cannons during the Civil War. This specimen is believed to be a very rare early or experimental variation.
This shell was “dug” and has scattered light pitting overall but otherwise it is in very good relic condition. The nose is threaded to accept a metal fuse adaptor but no fuse is present. There is also no sabot remaining. The unusual variation found on this particular shell is the shape of the channel that held the sabot. Measures 8” tall x 2.95” diameter.
Iron surface remains smooth and very clean for an excavated relic. Unknown recovery location. [jet][ph:L]
