This is a nice excavated SNY belt plate. Pattern 1839 belt buckle with puppy-paw hooks. Brown patina on face with the letters “SNY” in the center. Light wear and a number of small “dings” on the face, and a bit of edge damage. 99% lead remains on the back with some minor cracking around edges. All hooks remain.
Reported to have been recovered at Antietam. [jet][ph:L]
