Offered here is a fine old souvenir “bullet in wood” from the Battle of Chancellorsville.
The piece of wood, all that remains of a tree that once stood in the path of the two battling armies, is about 9” long and 2” wide. A three-groove “Minie ball” is visible as is the path of the projectile through the wood.
This piece is an old souvenir and has “Battle of Chancellorsville / May 2, 1863” deeply stamped into the back side.
The wood remains very solid and has a dark patina. A very nice display piece. [jet][ph:L]
