This Pattern 1839 US Cartridge Box Plate was recovered at Cedar Mountain Battlefield, with an accompanying note written by the venerable Sid Kerksis listing the date and location of recovery (in the woods near the Wheatfield, which is likely the field near the Crittenden Lane).
Both loops are present with expected rust, secure in the lead fill. The face shows minor denting along the edges and a muted patina.
An excellent piece, from the site of some of Cedar Mountain’s bloodiest fighting and the collection of a respected name in relic hunting. [cm][ph:L]
