This Federal shoulder belt plate is of the regulation 1826 pattern. Constructed in the die-struck and rolled brass method, the brass accoutrement’s face shows a clear eagle in the center. Face has a brown patina and some lead oxidation around the edge. The edge remains in fair condition with just a few small cracks and dings. Lead filled back retains 95% of lead fill with one small chunk missing. No maker’s mark. The iron loops are rusted away. A nice relic in typical “dug” condition. Recovered from an unknown location.

This breast plate was part of the relic collections in G.A.R. (Grand Army of the Republic) Post #551. This was the Peter Miller Post in York Springs, Pennsylvania. Named after Private Peter Miller of Company K, 30th PA Infantry who was killed in action at South Mountain, MD, on September 14, 1862.    [jet] [ph:L]
