This US shoulder belt plate was affixed to the front of the shoulder belt for the infantry cartridge box. It features the spread-winged eagle design. Brass face is smooth and retains fine detail. Even dark patina overall with very slight lead oxidation around edges. Complete lead fill on reverse with both iron loops. A short piece of leather remains wrapped in one loop. Clearly stamped into the lead on the back is the maker’s mark, “W.H. SMITH / BROOKLYN”.

In very good “dug” condition. Recovered at Chancellorsville, Virginia.   [jet][ph:L]
