These belt plates are hard to find and were specifically designed for enlisted mounted dragoons or riflemen. The plate is in non-dug condition and measures 56 x 88mm. It is constructed with a die-struck, rolled brass face that features large raised letters "US". The face has a nice mellow patina with very fine dents concentrated at center.

The reverse is complete with puppy paw style studs and tongue. The lead fill is complete with moderate scratching and denting.

What makes this belt plate different from the infantry oval plates is that the hooks of the dragoon plate are arranged so that the posts for attaching it to the belt are found behind the letter "S" and the tongue behind the letter "U". This was done to accommodate a dragoon's saber belt.
