This dug French Napoleonic plate of stamped brass is the Infantry Model of 1810 which was in use until 1815 even after the introduction of the more iconic but late Model 1812 (with the eagle surmounting the amazon shield). This plate was at one time in the collection of Adrian Forman London and Minehead, UK and was purchased in 1981. For decades afterward it was in the famous Daniel Adolphe collection of New Rochelle NY. It was re-acquired by the consignor in 2008 from Professor Isaac K Hay of Lancaster PA. The plate was found around 1920 outside the works of Badajoz in Spain; the site of Wellingtons great, yet horrific, victory against the French there. Please click on this link (Siege of Badajoz (1812) - Wikipedia). The excavated black/green patina is fine, and the condition is perfect. [pe][PH:L]
