Offered here is a group of seven “dug” buttons, recovered on private property near Fort Erie, Fort Niagara, and Fort George.
Included are buttons from the British 6th Regiment of Foot, 100th Regiment of Foot, U.S. Infantry, Royal Artillery (1 piece), Royal Artillery (2 piece), 23rd Regiment of Foot, Royal Newfoundland Regiment of Fencible Infantry, and the Canadian Militia.
All buttons show wear to the faces, some worse than others. Other than the 23rd button, no shanks remain. Recovered long ago, these were mounted to a “relic board” and at some point removed, leaving snipped copper wire and a drop of solder on the back of each. This is unfortunate, but the faces are basically fine for display.
The 6th was known as the Warwickshire regiment. The 100th was The H.R.H The Prince Regent's County of Dublin Regiment of Foot. And the Canadian Militia comprised the Sedentary and Select Embodied Militia.
A fine selection of British and Canadian War of 1812 buttons. [jet][ph:L]
