This “dug” Federal cartridge box plate is the small size of the regulation 1839. Constructed in the die-struck and rolled brass method, the brass accoutrement’s face shows a clear “US” with smooth face and mixed patina; looks to have been slightly over cleaned long ago. Nice, full edge remains with only one slight dent on right end.

Retains 95% of lead fill; no maker’s mark. Edges are slightly concave. The two brass hooks remain perfectly intact. Measures approximately 70mm x 42mm.

Reported to have been recovered near Tupelo, MS. In good “relic” condition, these are scarce, early belt plates.   [jet][ph:L]
