Offered here is a large lot (24) of lead balls of various calibers from Jekabpils (Jakobstadt), Latvia.

The Great Northern War (1700–1721) was a 21-year conflict where a coalition led by Russia fought to break Sweden's power in the Baltic region. The war ended the Swedish Empire and made Russia a major European power. Specifically, on July 25, 1704, Jēkabpils (then known as Jakobstadt) was a strategic military site and the location of the Battle of Jakobstadt, where Swedish forces decisively defeated a combined Russian and Lithuanian army.

The lead balls include various sizes, ranging from approximately .31” to .54”. Most retaining sprues, some fired and some dropped. All recovered from around Jekabpils.

From the collection of author/publisher Dean Thomas. Dean was a bullet collector since the 1960s, had published numerous books on Civil War small arms ammunition, and was working on a book about early “round shot” ammunition when he died in 2023.
